Over the years Greentrax Recordings has received many requests for an album exclusively of slow airs and reflective melodies and this album has been released to fulfil that need. The Greentrax back-catalogue was carefully searched and after much deliberation we arrived at this selection. The music is performed by many of Scotland’s most celebrated musicians and reflects the playing of almost all of Scotland’s traditional instruments including the clarsach, concertina, fiddle, guitar, Highland bagpipe, Scottish small pipes, piano, whistles and even a track with the Gaita Asturian (Asturian bagpipe). You will find tracks by such well-known groups as Ceolbeg, Fiddlers’ Bid, The Cast and The Whistlebinkies; two excellent duos consisting of Xose Munoz & Simon Bradley, and Willie Hunter & Violet Tulloch; and extremely talented soloists in Wendy Stewart, Gordon Gunn, Ian Hardie, Hamish Moore, Tony McManus, Iain MacInnes, Lorne MacDougall, Gary West and Jimmy Young. All the solo tracks have top accompanists from within the Scottish music scene. A truly outstanding collection of Celtic Airs and Reflective Melodies which again emphasises the strength of the Greentrax back-catalogue.
